【摘要】:Theweighingofcollectedaerosolisoneofthemostcommonandpurportedlysimpleanalyticalproceduresinbothoccupationalandenvironmentalatmosphericmonitoring(forexample,TestMethodD4532orD4096).Problemswithmeasurementaccuracyoccurwhentheamountofmaterialcollectedissmall,owingbothtobalanceinaccuracyandvariationintheweightofthatpartofthesamplingmediumthatisweighedalongwiththesample.Theprocedurespresentedhereforcontrollinganddocumentingsuchanalyticalerrorswillhelpprovidetheaccuracyrequiredformakingwell-foundeddecisionsinidentifying,characterizing,andcontrollinghazardousconditions.Recommendationsaregivenastomaterialstobeused.Meansofcontrollingorcorrectingerrorsarisingfrominstabilityareprovided.Recommendationsastotheweighingprocedurearegiven.Finally,amethodevaluationprocedureforestimatingweighingerrorsisdescribed.RecommendationsarealsoprovidedforthereportingofweightsrelativetoLOD(see3.2.6)andLOQ(see3.2.7).Thequantities,LODandLOQ,arecomputedasaresultofthemethodevaluation.1.1Assessmentofairborneaerosolhazardsintheoccupationalsettingentailssamplingontoacollectionmediumfollowedbyanalysisofthecollectedmaterial.Theresultisgenerallyanestimatedconcentrationofapossiblyhazardousmaterialintheair.Theuncertaintyinsuchestimatesdependsonseveralfactors,oneofwhichrelatestothespecifictypeofanalysisemployed.Themostcommonlyappliedmethodforanalysisofaerosolsistheweighingofthesampledmaterial.Gravimetricanalysis,thoughapparentlysimple,issubjecttoerrorsfrominstabilityinthemassofthesamplingmediumandotherelementsthatmustbeweighed.Anexampleisprovidedbyaerosolsamplersdesignedtocollectparticlessoastoagreewiththeinhalableaerosolsamplingconvention(seeISOTR7708,GuideD6062M,andEN481).Forsomesamplertypes,filterandcassetteareweighedtogethertomakeestimates.Therefore,ifthecassette,forexample,absorbsorloseswaterbetweentheweighingsrequiredforaconcentrationestimation,thenerrorsmayarise.Thispracticecoverssuchpotentialerrorsandprovidessolutionsfortheirminimization.1.2ThevaluesgiveninSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
